“Once You Reach Your 40s, Your Best Skin Years Are Behind You.”

Ha! There was no way I was going to accept that...

Shortly after my 40th birthday, I started to notice a whole list of skin issues.

My skin became dry and irritated, followed by breakouts and redness. Not to mention fine lines making their grand appearance!

I always had decent skin and felt great with it, even without makeup on. I hardly used anything apart from the odd bit of Nivea here and there.

I had no idea what was going on, but I was desperate to find answers. I thought it could be just a sign of aging, but I soon realised something else was going on.

It was then my 46 year-old friend Louise told me about ‘Perimenopause’ and how it can completely devastate your skin.

I wanted to find out all I could about this and find a solution. I was determined to feel good in my skin again.

What’s Perimenopause? How Did it Affect My Skin?

We all know about menopause. But there’s actually a stage before menopause called ‘peri-menopause’. And this is when your body starts transitioning to menopause.

At this stage, our periods have not completely stopped, but the changes in hormones can start to create range of unpleasant symptoms. It can begin as early as your mid-30s. And for many it can last 4 to 8 years before menopause!

Along with my skin issues, I noticed small changes with my period cycles, which I discovered is one of the telltale signs of perimenopause.

During this time, as women we start to produce less estrogen and collagen in the skin.
